Club History -Thanet Wing Chun Club started as a Karate Club in Oct 2009, by Jan 2010 the club’s student’s voted to learn Wing Chun Kuen instead as it was more beneficial and useful to them this came about because the instructor or Sifu’s own martial art is Wing Chun Kuen for which he is of black sash status and has been 32 years associated with it and was taught under a Master of the style. He is also associated with Karate, Ju-Jitsu, Judo, Akaido,Tai Chi and Chi Gong.
Wing Chun Kuen is a self-defence technique of ancient Chinese Kung Fu monks and more linked with the legendary Bruce Lee’s style of martial art. This style of self-defence is used in every day personal threatening situations such as being physically bullied at school, home and at work, it teaches self-discipline, how to defend yourself and gives you confidence and posture. It is personal contact and hands on defence, the art is used for many different reasons as in special forces such as FBI, CIA, Hungarian Military NOCS (Italy) and RAID (France).
Students All students come from different backgrounds and culture from school children to school teachers, lawyers etc, women and the vulnerable are especially interested in defending themselves. We have students training in the art to become Instructors .All students are requested to complete a medical form and adhere to the club’s policy. They are also expected to take The United Kingdom Martial Arts Federation Insurance, the club’s membership and club’s uniform over the time they are with us. Grading-We have a colour sash grading system which is registered with the United Kingdom Martial Arts Federation.
